This is an excellent book by Sarah Isgur which explains why the judicial branch of government is the only one currently doing its job. There is also a detailed background on each of the current justices.

Read how Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay defended the Constitution to get New York to ratify it.

The Great Dissenter: The Story of John Marshall Harlan, America's Judicial Hero

Read about the only justice who dissented in Plessy v. Ferguson, the infamous "separate but equal" case. And this book was written by Peter Canellos, a non-lawyer.
